Based on real events, PAPA is a dramatic short film that focuses on Pepe, the youngest son of African immigrants who is caught between the challenge of defining himself in a new culture, and the struggle of coming of age in a home dominated by a father who runs the household with an iron fist. An explosive confrontation forces Papa (played by renowned Ivorian actor Souleymane Sy Savane, the Independent Spirit Award-nominated star of Goodbye Solo) to reconsider his abusive ways or risk losing his entire family.

Papa is a short movie based on real events about a young African immigrant caught between the challenges of defining himself in his host culture and the struggles of coming of age in a home dominated by a stoic and unwavering father.

Bambadjan Bamba is an up and coming Hollywood talent hailing from the Cote d’Ivoire. He started his movie careers as an actor and is mostly recognizable through the current Snickers candy bar ad where he features alongside the legendary Joe Pesci.

Souleymane Sy Savane, who has recently co-starred in “Machine Gun Preacher” with Gerard Butler, plays the father (PAPA)

PAPA Is a coming of age drama about an African family adjusting to life in the United States. Papa is the stern king who runs his household the traditional African way and upholds the law. Maman is the nurturing figure but she spends most of her time at work. Ali is the oldest of the kids and enjoys all the first born privileges. Bebe is the baby of the family so she's free to do whatever she likes and Pepe is the middle child who feels forgotten in between. In a house full of rules where no one is free to express themselves, Pepe challenges the status quo and forces Papa to reconsider his ways.

We decided to launch this campaign because we believe that the theme of PAPA "Love without the action that expresses it is dead" is a universal human truth that we can all identify with and that can impact all relationships for the better.

My name is Bambadjan Bamba, I am the writer and director of PAPA. I'm a founding member of Sacred Drum, our goal is to Enlighten, Educate and Entertain our audiences with original stories that are socially relevant with a concentration on the African experience.

What We Need

We need $10,000. That will insure that every key crew member gets paid a little something for their hard work because we believe that free labor ends up being more expensive down the line.
